KARNA — The Band That Created Hutsul Metal

KARNA is a Ukrainian rock band from Ivano-Frankivsk, founded in 1997. Over the years, the band has evolved from alternative nu-metal to its own distinctive musical style, which the musicians themselves call “Hutsul metal.” The sound combines heavy guitar-driven music with Carpathian motifs, Ukrainian melodies, folk musical traditions, and modern rock energy.

KARNA has become one of the bands that helped shape the recognizable sound of the contemporary Ukrainian rock scene. The band took part in the Chervona Ruta festival and won the Grand Prix of the Taras Bulba festival in 2003. Throughout its history, KARNA has released several studio albums, including Letymo, KARNA, Hutsul Metal, and Hutsulization.

At the same time, the music retains the essential elements of the band’s identity — the Carpathian spirit and emotional intensity that have become hallmarks of KARNA’s sound.
