Product description
“I created Niby Chaiky not so much for myself, but for the people, to support them and remind them that there is beauty around despite everything.” © Cepasa
Cepasa is a contemporary Ukrainian artist from Kyiv. He works in the electronic style and has a recognizable "relaxed" sound. Niby Chaiky is an interpretation of 20th-century Ukrainian music by Yudif Rozhavska, Ihor Shamo, and Platon Maiboroda. The album seems to address the classics of folklore, creating a cultural bridge between the past and the present.
The musical career of Cepasa (Pavlo Lenchenko) began in 2012 with his first slow house music songs. It was then that the artist began to develop his signature style, "Ukrainian house"—a combination of electronica and Ukrainian culture.
Niby Chaiky is an intimate and moving appeal to the classics, creating an atmosphere that resonates with and immerses the listener. The album title is a reference to the cult Ukrainian song “Letyat Niby Chaiky” (They Fly Like Seagulls) by Yudif Rozhavska, set to a poem by Lad Reva. When working on the album, the author decided to use the painting “Motanka Western Podillya” by Ukrainian artist Marta Pitchuk for the cover. Overall, Niby Chaiky is a perfect example of a nostalgic look and a delicate modernization where it can be relevant. The album also included several compilations: “Chervona Kalyna” (featuring soloist of the Odesa Opera Andriy Kharlamov and Volodymyr Chmil from the band "Khvylia"), “Etnodim” (featuring Tonya and Nina Matviyenko), and “Kyiv.”
The album is dedicated to the struggle of the Ukrainian people for freedom and includes 9 tracks that the artist recorded in the spring and summer of 2022. In the songs, he combines electronica with Ukrainian folklore. The main idea of the album is the unity between generations of Ukrainians who created cultural phenomena and, despite obstacles and prohibitions, passed them on to subsequent generations. This very idea inspired the ТІЛЬКИТАК Records team while working on this release. Produced in orange to complement the cover, it is pressed on 180g vinyl to ensure a deep, "live" sound. The circulation totals 299 copies and includes:
An insert with an autograph
A poster with an image of the painting “Motanka Western Podillya” by Marta Pinchuk
Externally, it features an Obi-Strip with hand-numbering, which adds collectible value to the release.
