Karna — Letymo | Vinyl

Drive and movement, freedom and unstoppable energy — the album that marked the beginning of Karna’s Hutsul metal journey.

Karna — the band that created its own style

Karna is a Ukrainian rock band from Ivano-Frankivsk, founded in 1997. From the beginning, the band combined alternative rock, heavy guitar-driven sound, and Carpathian folk motifs, gradually developing its own style — Hutsul metal.

The name Karna refers to pre-Christian beliefs: Karna is a deity associated with mourning the dead, punishment, death, and the battlefield. This image became part of the band’s distinctive aesthetic.

Letymo — the album that started Hutsul metal

“Letymo” is Karna’s debut full-length album, released in 2003. It laid the foundation for the sound that would later become known as Hutsul metal.

The album’s ten tracks are filled with energy, inner struggle, and a desire for freedom. The lyrics call for movement, speed, and breaking free from limitations, while the powerful guitar-driven sound reinforces the feeling of constant forward motion.

“Letymo,” “My Budemo Razom,” “Kazka,” “Pro Stefana,” “Beznadiino Khvoryi,” and other tracks became an important part of Karna’s early history and the Ukrainian rock scene.

The album also preserves the spirit of its era through two demo versions — “Smittya (Demo 2002)” and “Beznadiino Khvoryi (Demo 2002)” — included on the vinyl edition.
