Description

The Iconic Manifesto of Ukrainian Art Rock of the 90s.

Mertvy Piven (Dead Rooster) is one of the most influential and significant bands in the Ukrainian scene, which emerged on the wave of post-punk and art rock in Lviv. Their work is unique thanks to the combination of powerful, energetic rock with highly intellectual and philosophical poetry. The album “Eto” is a defining work of their early period, capturing the raw energy and revolutionary sound of the era.

The band was founded in 1989 among the community of Ivan Franko Lviv University. For some time, the band members identified themselves as the "Fourth Generation of Hippies." The band's name appeared not by chance but is associated with the "Stary Lviv" (Old Lviv) cafe, where they often gathered. A weather vane (an iron figure of a rooster) hung at the entrance to the establishment, which they considered dead. Hence, the name "Mertvy Piven" arose. During its existence, MP had many members, but the most "canonical" lineup includes Mykhailo Barbara (vocals), Roman Chaika (guitar), Oleh Suk (bass guitar), Yurko Chopyk (acoustic guitar), Mar'yan Kotov (guitar), and Oleksiy Slobodian (drums). One of the most recognizable features of the collective's work is songs based on the poems of famous Ukrainian poets.

“Eto” is the band's debut album from 1992, in which their signature style, based on subtle wordplay and sharp social commentary, is immediately felt.

This edition from ТІЛЬКИТАК Records was created to maximize the musical fullness of this historical album. A cover inspired by the original cassette edition was specially created for the vinyl record. Produced on double vinyl in white and black colors and pressed on 140g vinyl. The limited circulation totals 299 copies, the first 99 of which contain the autographs of the band members. An insert with photos and a booklet with song lyrics are also included in the set.

It is externally complemented by a manually numbered Obi-Strip, which emphasizes the collectible component of the edition.
