Mertvyi Piven is a Ukrainian rock band founded in Lviv in 1989. The band emerged from the environment of Ivan Franko Lviv University and became one of the most distinctive representatives of the Ukrainian alternative and art-rock scene.

The music of Mertvyi Piven combined the energy of rock, post-punk, and acoustic sound with intellectual poetry, irony, and sharp social observations. One of the band’s defining features was its use of lyrics by prominent Ukrainian poets, including Yurii Andrukhovych, Viktor Neborak, Natalka Bilotserkivets, and others.

In 1991, the band won at the Chervona Ruta festival in Zaporizhzhia with the song “My pomrem ne v Pariži,” based on a poem by Natalka Bilotserkivets. The following year, the band released its first studio album, “Eto.”

“Eto” is the debut album by Mertvyi Piven, recorded and released in 1992. The album immediately demonstrated the band’s distinctive style — a combination of alternative rock, acoustic instruments, an experimental approach, and Ukrainian poetry.

The album features 18 tracks, including “Eto,” “Kvaziamor,” “Iieronim Boskh XX,” “B'iutyful Karpaty,” “Misiachnyi bliuz,” “Chuiesh, myla...,” “Koly ty smiieshsia,” “Viktoriia,” and one of the band’s best-known songs, “My pomrem ne v Pariži.”

A special place on the album is occupied by compositions based on the works of Ukrainian poets. This combination of music and contemporary Ukrainian poetry became one of the most recognizable features of Mertvyi Piven’s work.

“Eto” captures the band’s early sound — live, experimental, and intimate at the same time. The arrangements feature guitars, violin, flute, sopilka, piano, and other acoustic instruments, creating the distinctive atmosphere of Mertvyi Piven’s early work.

A new cover inspired by the original cassette release was created specifically for this vinyl edition. The album is pressed on two 140g records in White & Black.

Only 299 copies.

Each copy is individually hand-numbered, emphasizing the collector’s character of the release.

A special part of the edition consists of the first 99 copies signed by the band members.
