Product description
“Some of my friends have been persistently asking me a rather direct question lately: ‘What should we do?’ This pushes me to develop a personal plan of resistance that others can join. It seems to me that the idea of ‘Mertvy Piven’ doing the ‘Radio Aphrodyta’ project is now our duty. The best thing we can do is music.” © Misko Barbara
Mertvy Piven (Dead Rooster) is a recognizable and unique rock project from Lviv. They are known for their sharp social lyrics and diverse covers of Ukrainian classics. Radio Aphrodyta is a studio album-anthology of 20th-century Ukrainian songs, the title of which is a direct historical reference to the OUN-UPA.
The band "Mertvy Piven" was founded in 1989 by young students: Lyubko Futorsky, Misko Barbara, Romko Ros, and Yaryna Yakubyak. The band owes its name to the weather vane at the "Stary Lviv" (Old Lviv) cafe, where the future musicians liked to gather. From the very beginning of its existence, the band began to form its signature style—sharp wordplay, often combined with social criticism. The rebellious spirit and atypical arrangement of MP allowed them to quickly establish themselves as one of Ukraine's leading rock bands in the 1990s.
Radio Aphrodyta is the band's last album in its classic lineup. The album's title refers to the OUN-UPA shortwave radio station "Aphrodyta," which operated during the Second World War, disseminating information about Ukraine's liberation struggle. This album is a kind of reconstruction of the imaginary broadcast of the "Aphrodyta" radio station in modern conditions. It consists of modernized versions of little-known Ukrainian songs of the 20th century, which Mertvy Piven reinterpreted and gave a new sound to. The goal of the project is to preserve the musical heritage and remind people of the cultural achievements that remain relevant today.
For the first time on vinyl, pressed on a black record, 180g. Limited circulation: 299 copies, the first 99 of which contain the band's autographs. Inside each copy, you can find a booklet with song lyrics and a photo insert.
It is externally complemented by a manually numbered Obi-Strip, which emphasizes the collectible component of the edition.
