Mertvy Piven (Dead Rooster) is a legendary rock band from Lviv. They have a recognizable signature style—sharp social lyrics and a driving rock sound. IL Testamento is one of the leading albums of the 90s rock scene in Ukraine. The album's lyrics focus on legacy, memory, and destiny and reflect a deep societal introspection.
Founded in 1989 by students Lyubko Futorsky, Misko Barbara, Romko Ros, and Yaryna Yakubyak, the band almost immediately made a loud statement as representatives of the "new Ukrainian rock." The name "Mertvy Piven" is a playful reference to the weather vane of the cafe where the musicians initially gathered. From the very beginning of its career, MP developed its signature lyrical style—social criticism often hidden behind sharp wordplay. Thanks to their rebellious spirit and original sound, they became a symbol of the 1990s.
Their album “IL Testamento” is a cult release from 1996 with the characteristic "rooster" sound: emotional, audacious, yet deeply sensitive. The title, which means "The Testament" in Italian, emphasizes the philosophical and summarizing nature of the material. In this album, you can find texts by Yuriy Andrukhovych, Oleh Lysheha, Taras Shevchenko, and other classics. Unlike earlier albums, IL Testamento demonstrates a more mature and balanced studio sound. The music is multilayered, utilizing both heavy guitar riffs and refined acoustic arrangements.
This is the first vinyl reissue of the CD edition of the cult album from the ТІЛЬКИТАК Records team. The release is presented in two variants:
Black: Classic black 180g vinyl, circulation – 199 copies, the first 99 of which contain the band's autographs, inside is a booklet with song lyrics and an insert.
Colored Splatter: Cosmic colored splatter, 180g record, limited circulation – 99 copies, the first 49 of which contain the band's autographs, inside is a booklet with song lyrics and an insert.
The hand-numbered circulation using an Obi-Strip adds collectible value to the edition.
