Product description
Music of Resistance. Songs of the UPA and the Ukrainian struggle for independence.
Taras Chubay is an iconic Ukrainian rock performer from Lviv. He is known for his deep musical ballads combined with folk-rock. “Nashi Partyzany” (Our Partisans) is a release featuring UPA (Ukrainian anti-communists and and anti-nazi rebels in WW2) songs and other compositions dedicated to the theme of the national liberation struggle, heroism, and sacrifice. Musically, it is powerful and often minimalistic rock, where the voice and the meaning of the lyrics take precedence.
Taras Chubay began his career in the mid-80s. In 1990, he founded the legendary conceptual band "Plach Yeremiyi" (Jeremiah's Cry). Chubay, as a songwriter, often bases his work on high poetry. He uses complex, highly artistic texts, which gives the songs intellectual weight. “Nashi Partyzany” is a unique collection featuring UPA insurgent songs in modern rock arrangements. This work is an important way to preserve memory and popularize songs that were long banned or little known to the general public. Members of the band "Plach Yeremiyi" participated in the recording of some compositions. For example, the trumpet part in “Hrayut surmy, hrayut…” (The trumpets are playing, playing…) is by Yurko Duda. The bass guitar part in “Plyve Kacha” (Kacha Swims) is by Vsevolod Dyachyshyn. The project was recorded in 1999 at the “Spaty” (Sleep) studio of the band "Skryabin." Band members Andriy Kuzmenko and Serhiy Hera provided technical support for the project.
This release, important for Ukrainian culture, is available for the first time on vinyl from the ТІЛЬКИТАК Records team. The gatefold cover features the lyrics to the songs, and as a special feature, unique embossing. Produced in classic black color and pressed on 180g vinyl to ensure the full depth of sound. The release totals 299 hand-numbered copies. Inside each, you can find a photo insert, and the first 99 of them were signed by Taras Chubay.
Externally, the edition is supplemented with an Obi-Strip with the copy number indicated, which adds collectible value to the edition.
