Description
“I believe in what I do, and I convey this belief to others through songs.” © Andriy Sereda
Komu Vnyz (Who Down) are pioneers of Ukrainian rock music from Kyiv. They are known for combining a powerful industrial sound with Ukrainian poetry (often using texts by Taras Shevchenko and other classics). The album “Komu Vnyz 1990” is their debut, which captured the ideological tension of the collapsing era and became a manifesto of nationally conscious art rock.
The group was formed in 1987 by young musicians Vladyslav Makarov (guitar), Andriy Sereda (vocals and songwriter), Yevhen Razin (drums and backing vocals), Serhiy Stepanenko (bass guitar), and Vladyslav Malyuhin (acoustics and backing vocals). The band's name is a derogatory pun on the word "Communism" from the Soviet Perestroika era.
The album “Komu Vnyz” is the cult debut Ukrainian-language album released in 1990, from which their signature style began to form. Stylistically, it combined a deep dark aesthetic, powerful rock energy, and national self-awareness. Technically, it is distinguished by the combination of heavy guitar riffs, dramatic lyrics, and the unique baritone of vocalist Andriy Sereda. The song lyrics are deeply rooted in philosophical and national themes, addressing the history, culture, and identity of Ukrainians. The band's music was inspired by Gothic, industrial, and folk motifs, which made it unique and authentic. This is more than music; it is a challenge that resonated with a generation striving for change and self-discovery. The history of one of the most influential Ukrainian groups begins with this record, and it remains a symbol of resilience, strength, and faithfulness to its ideas today.
The first vinyl edition of this iconic Ukrainian album from ТІЛЬКИТАК Records. The design is inspired by the cassette edition, and the record includes a booklet with song lyrics and an insert with the band's symbol. Produced in classic black color on 180g vinyl to ensure a deep "live" sound. The limited circulation is 299 copies, the first 99 of which contain the band's autographs.
It is externally adorned with a hand-numbered Obi-Strip, which emphasizes the collectible value.
